I love the candle analogy :D I am a candle maker myself (and while I don't make tapers) I can definitely relate to the analogy....all things take time to build up, whether they are positive or negative!

Hi Kathleen,

I am both jealous (you get rain!!) and smiling as I read your comment on the 10 Ways to Build a Better Self Image article. I'm smiling because there is no exact "energy of funk" there's just feeling 'funk'. You know, feeling down, sad, strange, a little out of sync, without there being a specific cause.

Also... WOW! How truly awesome that you are already including all 9 points of Building a Better Self-Image into you life. That's so self-empowering and absolutely divine! You are discovering how to love yourself, value yourself, and live your best life. Anyone making all those choices is guarenteed to achieve success!!

Thanks for sharing your encouragement and your positive energy with all of us. You make a difference!

With much admiration,
Annette

Another great day even though it is raining. I love the analogy of the wax candle-----we work on ourselves daily to have a more healthy relationship with our bodies, minds and souls. Except for the elevator speech, I can honestly say that I'm continuing to work on the other 9 strategies and am having great success. What is the "energy of funk"? Never heard this before. K.

Sometimes it is tough getting out of the energy of funk that seems to be hanging out these days. I just wanted to say I enjoy reading your articles. They always help me rise above myself and become something more each day.

Dear Jonathan –

Thank you for the gift of your compliment!

The giving and receiving of compliments may be one of the simplest and most underused tools towards gaining inner peace, serenity, and a sense of self. However, often we find it difficult to take in positive messages and compliments. We get nervous or defensively brush off the kind words of others. A few people may even discount flattering remarks and begin arguing with the compliment giver!

What’s important about receiving compliments is that it opens your heart to yourself. Many years ago I realized that I had difficulty accepting compliments. So I decided to change things for myself. I began to imagine the compliment as a gift, beautifully wrapped and just waiting for me. Later on, when I was alone, or feeling more centered, I would take the compliment out of storage and gently unwrap my gift. It was a beautiful present just waiting for me to receive it into my life.

Thanks for lending your valuable insights to Divine Self! and for sharing your love with us all!

Hello Lisa!

Thanks for leaving a great comment on today’s blog article. I’m happy to get to know you. I love your website… great intro page and very solid, reassuring blue colors.

Today, I happen to be feeling tired and somewhat emotional myself. Nothing in particular I can point to, but nonetheless, the funk is upon me. So I especially appreciate your comments about experiencing the joys and even the pains of the present moment. Just before reading your words I had a little self-talk telling myself that it was okay to feel this way, but now what was I going to do to make this a great day anyway. Because ultimately, that is my underlying goal of every day: to make each day meaningful and fulfilling. I now have a few ideas that will move me in the right direction.

Thanks again for sharing your insights and wisdom,
Annette

Great post Annette! Thanks for sharing the link on Twitter.
I appreciate point #2. We cannot put our lives on hold until we feel things are where we want them. We must live in the now, experiencing the joys and even the pains of the present moment. Postponing pleasure is a huge mistake, and the feelings of emptiness or depression that result can drive us further from our goals.

fulfilling life's purpose,
Lisa

Hi Annette,

This is a great article.

I really appreciate the insight in point nine. Being aware of our own response to compliments can provide a window to our level of self-approval. Being uncomfortable with compliments should not be confused with humility. Outwardly the two responses may look similar but internally they completely different.
