It is quickly approaching the middle of summer. Are you having fun yet? Are you happy in your work, your relationships, or in your own body and life? Are you doing what you love to do the most, living with passion, and taking action on the things that give your life meaning?
Sure, these are challenging times, and almost everyone is worried about his or her economic future. We are inundated with the inescapable stream of bad news about the housing market, issues of job security, and skyrocketing supermarket prices. Yes, there are things to be concerned about, to keep our focus on, and to follow through on. However, if you are not having fun or feeling energized in your day-to-day life, decide in this moment that there is nothing more important than making your enjoyment of life a priority.
Despite the hard times and unending heat, there’s a lot you can do to add more fun to your life. Start by reading the ideas below, then make your own plan to bring more joy to each moment.
-
Give yourself permission to have fun.
-
Revise your “to-do” list and put your most personally important goals at the top.
-
Start doing what you love now. Take action!
-
Manage your time better.
-
Purposefully deal with stress. To create vibrancy in your life, breath, meditate, walk, practice yoga, or find some other way to bring your body, mind, and spirit back into balance.
-
Have a picnic in your backyard.
-
Get up before the sun rises and take a walk in the early dawn.
-
Prioritize your spending and buy only what adds to your joy beyond the initial moment of purchase.
-
Trust your intuition. Do what it tells you to do.
-
Learn something new. Try new things that life tosses your way, and explore opportunities.
-
Get more actively involved with enjoyable food experiences. Take a cooking class or a knife skills class, throw a dinner party, or cook yourself healthy colorful, and nourishing meals.
-
Make it your intention to take daily steps to “stop and smell the roses.”
-
Watch less television and read a life-altering book.
-
Create a vision board, or motivational poster, to maintain focus on what is important to you.
-
Decide to be your own best friend.
-
Learn to live from your heart.
-
Go to the shelter and give a great dog a new home. A dog can lift your spirits and gives you an excuse to walk outdoors twice a day.
-
Sing in your car. Singing out loud allows you to express a wide range of emotions, and is an excellent way to increase your vitality. When you have more energy, you can have more fun.
-
Plan a vacation. If you can’t afford an expensive getaway, discover ways to hotly pursue free summer concerts, pools, and activities.
-
Nurture your sense of humor by looking at the lighter side of life.
-
Life is a game, be involved – do not be a spectator all your life.
-
Man up. Or, woman up. You’re an adult now and it’s up to you to take charge and make some fun happen.
Use these ideas to have some fun, to feel more joy and to light up the world with the divine self that you are. If you’ve discovered some great ways to leave your summer doldrums behind, please share your ideas and comments below!

Hi Annette,
You are as happy as you make up your mind to be! That quote came from someone who said it , but I can’t remember who?
I read through the list and can happily report that I agree with all statements—–having already done most of them.
Yes! Summer is certainly flying by and I’m making the most of it. It is amazing what one can do without breaking the bank account.
Thank you once again, Annette

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.
~ Albert Schweitzer
Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.
~ Benjamin Disraeli
Happiness comes when your work and words are of benefit to yourself and others.
~Buddha
The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet.
~ James Oppenheim

If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it!
