Initiate a Morning Ritual of Sitting Quietly

Morning MeditationBefore starting your day in the morning, sit quietly, even if only for one minute. This one minute may be the most important minute of your day. Sit down and simply breathe. This can help slow your mind, lift you out of old habits of stress and rushing, and create balance.

Take a minute to touch base with yourself. You can ask:

  • What is going on with me?
  • What am I feeling?
  • What do I want to do today?

Sitting down for even just one minute before meeting the demands of your busy life can allow you to pay attention to what is meaningful to you. You can look forward to what the new day has to offer before rushing off into it helter-skelter.

I have changed the way I view mornings by remembering the following inspiring words by J.B. Priestly, “I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning.”

Every morning I wake up, say hello to the kitties lying on my nightstand, and breathe in the beauty of the trees and flowers outside my bedroom windows. Another day to create, another day to be alive!

DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS BEFORE EVEN GETTING OUT OF BED, WORKS WONDERS FOR ME! I SIMPLY SAY TO MYSELF “Today is a new day, with no mistakes in it!”

I like to look out my window at my beautiful patio and take in the quiet before I start my day. I realized I have been so busy that I had been skipping this all important morning ritual. Thanks for reminding me!
