Celebrate and Play In The Snow!

Daffodils SmallSome people may say “Bah Humbug!” to old man winter, but when it snows in Dallas, Texas it’s a celebration for adults and kids alike! This is an event that happens maybe once a year here. By many standards, our snow isn’t deep and it won’t stay on the ground for more than a day. But for today, it’s a magical winter wonderland.

With snow on the ground, it’s time to bundle up and head outside. Snowman SmallGloves, hats, boots, and scarves make today a winter FUN day! This morning I headed out and had a snowball fight with my husband, built a couple of snowmen, and made snow angels.

Then I took a long walk to listen to the stillness around me. Above are my first daffodils of the season Coyote in the Backyardcovered in snow, and below is a coyote in the woods behind my house. How awesome is that!

If it’s snowing by you, let out your inner child and go play!! You’ll be glad you did.

Stopping By Woods On a Snowy Evening
Robert Frost (1923)

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

A day with only 9 kids in class must have been a true unexpected joy! And no school tomorrow… well that’s just icing on the cake. Hope you were able to get outside a little and enjoy the crisp, snowy air.

Hi Jill, so glad you stopped by to say hello! That was a great snowday!! I suppose when the snow, especially snow like that, happens only every few years, it really brings out inner playfulness. And now, just a few weeks later, spring is here in Dallas. My daffodils are almost in full bloom, there’s a flock of almost 100 robins in my yard, and the trees are beginning to bud. I love life and seeing it emerge once more in the spring makes me energized and excited. Hope you are also enjoying the nature around you, no matter what the weather is doing!

I for one cannot wait for spring, much warmer temperatures to be able to go outside and take walks and do everything that we wanted to do in the winter! (standing outside in line waiting to get in/get tickets for a concert isn’t fun in the snow/cold/ice) :)
