Despite the crazy and surprising late March snow only 3 days ago (71 degrees, then 8 inches of snow, and then back to 73 degrees!), we are deep into springtime here in Dallas, TX. I spent a fabulous day yesterday with my husband Ray planting our first early spring and summer flowers. Oh my, we had such joy being involved together in the creation of our flowering yard and patio oasis. Ray did the planting while I cleaned up many of the fallen tree limbs and branches from the trees around our creek.
The summer heat in Texas is intense and so we usually plant the tried and true heat tolerant plants. But this year we’re going wild and deciding to experiment with all new varieties. I especially love the bright blue flowers that attract the butterflies, the vibrant red and orange flowers that summon the hummingbirds, and an assortment of vivid yellows, purples, pinks, and corals. I feel so alive when I’m outside playing in the dirt. An added bonus is knowing our efforts will be rewarded as an assortment of butterflies, birds, and insects return to our flowers every year.
I bet you have a list of enjoyable spring activities in your life too. If you’re ready to shed the heavy winter and bring new life to yourself, you might stop and notice where your passions lie. What could you do this spring that would bring new vitality and spirit into your body? Where can you put your energy that will create an ongoing reminder that you are creator of your own joy?
As always, we’d love to hear from you. Let us know your spring passions in the comments section below!
